January in Florence
  • 2025
  • by the famous directors’ trio Ola, Gallifrey and Hedgar
  • 110 minutes

In ‘January in Florence’, we follow the lives and struggles of two Flemish (or Woaslandse) students, Tine and Paulien, taking the leap of moving abroad to do their PhD on a Tuscan hill. In January 2021, we see them navigating a pandemic together: through talks about sincere cooperation and EU external relations law-topics of all sorts, their bound grows and their friendship flourishes. By January 2022, the two have found each other in overcommitting for WG events and coordination. Besides PhD life, Tine is always there for Paulien, through thick and thin, she is the most loyal and supportive friend of them all. January 2023 brings a cozy NY brunch and an unforgettable goodbye in Fiasco for our two protagonists. Paulien misses Tine terribly after leaving Florence, although they always find ways to stay touch, and the academic sisterhood is strong. At the start of 2024, Paulien comes to her senses and she goes back to Italy for another January in Florence. Finally back to coffee breaks of two hours, Pasta Fresca lunches and uplifting chats whenever needed. January 2025 heralds the final PhD stretch for both of our academic heroines, the end is rough but made bearable by exchanging countless cat pictures, motivating texts and advice amongst EU law nerds.

January 2026… Reunion in SG… Paulien is still proud beyond words of Dr. Tine. Dr. Tine is an incredibly bright mind, no doubt possible. But above all: Dr. Tine is a courageous, kind-hearted, generous and phenomenal woman.

Love you loads, lovey!
